The Retreat, Brynhonddu is set in a large 17th Century country house and is a beautiful spacious ground floor non-smoking apartment which has been recently refurbished to a very high standard and awarded Silver status in the Green Tourism Business Scheme.  The open plan living area has large sash windows which overlook the wooded garden and has a modern style electric fire, comfortable sofas (one of which is a useful sofa-bed), TV with DVD and Sky Freeview.

A modern wooden kitchen comes complete with fridge, freezer, washing machine/dryer, dishwasher, electric oven, hob and microwave and the wet room style bathroom has a large shower area, bath, wc and washbasin.  There is a comfortable double well appointed bedroom with all bedlinen and towels provided.

The property has electricity and oil central heating and the water supply comes from a mountain spring.  There is variable mobile phone coverage and the property is accessed via a shared farm track driveway with parking for 2 cars  A wide variety of local birdlife can be seen including a resident peacock and pets are welcome by agreement (preferably only one).

The patio area to the front of the apartment overlooks wooded grounds and The Retreat, Brynhonddu shares Bwlch Trewyn Estate with a working Sheep Farm.  The associated grounds are covered by a blanket Tree Preservation Order, initiated to preserve the wide variety of indigenous and non-indigenous tree species, including one of the oldest Ginkgo Biloba trees in the country (A pre-historic fruit bearing conifer with no living relatives originating in China).

We are situated in the foothills of the Black Mountains and for those wishing to venture further afield, there is easy access to the Offa‘s Dyke footpath only ¼ mile away, whilst the Brecon Beacons Mountains are a short drive away and the nearest market town of Abergavenny is 6 miles.  Pandy with a local garage/shop is 1 mile, Llanthony with a famous Abbey is 7 miles and the old town of Hay on Wye is 17 Miles.

We are fortunate to have 4 local Hostelries within 2 miles of 'Brynhonddu' all offering food and covering a range of cuisine from basic to down right scrumptious.  A good selection of Traditional British Beers are available at several of these hostelries, as well as the less revered Keg Beers and Lagers.

Please be aware that it is an offence to smoke inside any enclosed building open to the public in Wales
